The Munitio Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Billets 9mm Special Edition Earphones look cool. But, lots of things look awesome. Do they deliver on their promise of serving sound on a rockin’ silver platter for your ears? Judging from what they’re made of, I had high hopes for both features, performance and comfort in these babies.

The Munitio Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Billets 9mm Special Edition Earphones are machined out of aircraft-grade billet aluminum. Of course, they’re laser etched with the Modern Warfare 3 logo. These earphones have a Kevlar reinforced rubber cable that is very lightweight and durable thanks to this added protective layer. The rubber cable has a good quality 24k gold plated 3.5 mm stereo jack that is compatible with smartphones, MP3 players, laptops and tablets. The earphones come with 9 mm speaker drivers with rare earth neodymium magnets to increase the speakers’ range and performance. For you science nerds, that would be NdFeB magnets that have justifiably become the strongest magnet in industrial use as permanent magnet components in the motors of hard disk drives, cordless tools, magnetic fasteners, etc.

The earphones come with six sets of silicone ear covers called SiloconeHollowPoints. The silicone covers come in small, medium and large. For the busy gamer they have an in-line mic with single button answer and hangup functionality. The box also comes with two earhooks and a compact carrying case.

When testing the earphones, I adapted them in the beginning to my particular needs by selecting the size of silicone covers that fit my ear canal the most comfortably. Sizing the correct silicone ear pod to your ears? Now that’s what I call customization! I tested out the earphones with my iPhone in several public places with high ambient noise. The performance was excellent. I found that the silicone ear covers acted as noise insulating covers that reduced the environmental din around me in downtown Seattle. I have sensitive hearing, so I appreciated the added noise reduction quality offered by the silicone protective coverings. I did find my self wishing for greater controls on the in-line mic, such as the volume plus and minus buttons and middle pause button of the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic, but that is really a small feature of convenience to complain about. The sound quality was of the highest quality, both in testing on phone calls and with listening to various kinds of music. I liked the compact design of the earphones, and, of course, their cool sleek look. “Dude, is that like, the Modern Warfare logo laser etched, like, on the back of your in-line mic? Dude!”

These are cool earphones that are still moderately priced for such excellent performance and customized comfort. Okay, so the sound was great. The comfort factor was the final hurdle that I always face in trying earphones, and the soft silicone padding happily dispensed with my usual ear aches that occur with the long term wearing of in-ear earphones.
