Help Babymouse Protect Free Speech

Books GeekMom

Not only is Jennifer Holm a three-time Newbery Honor winner and the author of the perfectly fabulous Babymouse books, she’s also a serious geekmom–and a champion of free speech. Today, Jenni and her brother, Babymouse illustrator Matthew Holm, have joined the ranks of the talented artists and writers who are donating time and art to a very worthy cause: a membership drive for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

CBLDF provides legal and educational services to protect the First Amendment rights of comic book art as a medium and of individual comics artists and writers.

Says Jenni: “Children’s books and comics are among the most frequently challenged titles in libraries across the country. As Americans, we need to keep working to protect the freedom we and our children have not only to say and write what we want, but also to read what we want. The First Amendment is about all of us–authors and readers.”

To help support CBLDF’s work, Jennifer and Matt have donated some frankly incredible items to the auction:

• A walk-on role in an upcoming Babymouse book (!!)

• A Skype visit with Matt and Jenni

• Professional development reviews–a writing critique from Jenni and an art critique from Matt (one of each)

• Personalized sketched postcard

Those are some seriously squee-worthy donations. Visit this site for more details and to see what incentives other comics giants have contributed to the auction in support of a very worthy cause.
