Geek Girl Con This Weekend! (GeekDad Weekly Rewind)

Geek Culture

Seattle-area geeks, especially geek girls, get thee to the first annual Geek Girl Con this weekend, October 8-9, at the Seattle Center Northwest Rooms and the EMP Museum.

Though it is named Geek Girl Con, everyone is welcome to attend, although children under 16 need to be under adult supervision. For a con in its first year, Geek Girl Con has an impressive schedule of events. GeekMom’s own Cathe Post will moderate the panel Geeks Raising Geeks on Sunday. Other panels for Saturday and Sunday include the Women of Harry Potter, Enticing a New Generation of Women into STEM Careers, Star Trek and Beyond, Oral History Live with Jane Espenson (this one is a ticketed event), Steampunk and many others, including a Whedonesque Burlesque for the over-18 crowd on Saturday night.

There’s also a masquerade; a signing schedule whose guests include Espenson, Greg Rucka, Trina Robbins, Gail Simone, and Scott Westerfeld among others; and a gaming room. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at some Seattle-area retailers.
