John Williams Is The Man

Family GeekMom

I’d like to take liberties here and provide an addendum to GeekDad Matt’s Top Ten Geek Axioms; John Williams is a god. Composer of such hallowed soundtracks as Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman, Jaws and my personal favorite, Home Alone. I think it is safe to say that there is not a geek household in this universe or the next, that does not crank up the volume for one or more of these anthems. I remember going out with my mother for the evening, and upon returning home we could hear the closing theme of The Empire Strikes Back as soon as the engine stopped running.

YouTube musician and fellow geek Corey Vidal has done a one man, four part a capella tribute to Star Wars using the musical stylings of John Williams. I enjoy a capella, I adore John Williams, but I honestly can’t decide if I love it or hate it, what say you?

9/16/11 Update from Corey Vidal’s youtube site: “A BIG thank you and ALL musical credit goes to the a cappella comedy group Moosebutter (from Provo, UT), who are not only the voices behind the song, but greatly assisted me in the making of this video and memorizing this brilliant track. 1. This is actually a tribute video to the original artists, an a capella group from my undergrad school (Brigham Young University).

    From the YouTube description:

I happen to love this song ever since I discovered it (and Moosebutter) as a lowly undergrad. It’s even more fun performed in person!

    1. Thanks so much Amanda, I did not find this information on his site when I was originally looking but have now added the correct attribution. Kudos to John and to you for putting credit where credit is due.

  2. I love it, for this one bit of Fridge Brilliance:

The whole song is about Star Wars, yet uses not a note of SW music. That alone is awesome, and shows the breadth of Williams’ work. 🙂 And I have a severe weakness for a capella.
