You have to hand it to the folks at Disney: they know how to put on a fun event even when they’re showing something that premiered a week ago. Tomorrow at 10:00am ET/PT, Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension will make its debut on Disney XD — which ordinarily wouldn’t be that interesting, seeing as how it premiered last Friday on the Disney Channel, but they’re making the event much cooler by adding an interactive piece to it.
The movie, which I reviewed last week, is brilliant and very funny, so there’s certainly nothing objectionable about watching it again. But there’s more to it this time: Disney will be hosting a live challenge for the online games based on the movie, in which players’ scores and/or shout-outs could be displayed on-air while the movie’s showing!
There are three games available on the movie’s webpage: “Agent P Strikes Back,” (a fun platformer) “Robot Riot” (tower-defense) and “Phineas and Ferb The Movie Game: The Dimension of Doooom!” (a 3D arcade-style game) They’re all a lot of fun, and players’ scores during each time the movie airs (once at 10:00am ET, once at 10:00am PT) will have a chance of being displayed on screen! This is true even if the scores aren’t particularly high ones, and the displays will of course include no private information (since you don’t have to enter any private info to play the games in the first place, there’s no way it could, anyway). Players will also have the ability to issue “shout-outs” to other players taken from a set of canned messages, which could also be displayed on-air while the movie’s being shown.
So, if you haven’t seen the movie yet for some reason, and even if you have, you may want to turn it on tomorrow morning — remember, 10:00 AM ET/PT on Disney XD. And encourage your kids to play the games — and of course keep in mind they can’t tell who’s a kid and who’s not among the games’ players, so I can’t think of any reason you shouldn’t play them yourself. And of course there’s nothing stopping you from practicing before the challenge starts.
