It’s true: Phineas and Ferb has become an indisputable, rip-roaring success. After the ratings the TV movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension received, it comes as no surprise that Disney has rewarded the show’s creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh with lucrative contracts for the future of the show and beyond.

I told you a few days ago about the amazing ratings the movie pulled in for Disney. Now comes word that Povenmire and Marsh have signed deals not only for a fourth season of the show (which is currently in its third), but for a probable spinoff and for a feature film based on the show! Yes, folks, Phineas and Ferb will be hitting the big screen sometime in the not-too-distant future. The deal also includes provisions for merchandise and other development.

I’m sure I sound a bit like a broken record on the subject, but I’m just thrilled to see a show like this succeed, and succeed so spectacularly. Speaking as a dad who’s been to his share of movies just because his kids wanted to go, it’s always nice to have a movie come along that they’ll be clamoring to see, that I’d gladly go see even without them. As far as Disney TV-based movies go, I’ll take this any day over High School Musical 3 (yes, my kids managed to convince my wife and me to take them to that) and The Wizards of Waverly Place.

If this news interests you even a little bit, be sure to keep an eye on GeekDad over the next couple of weeks, because I’m very likely going to be interviewing Povenmire and Marsh — for something like the fifth time — about the new deals they struck and in what direction they see the Tri-State Area going in the near future.
