I’m a big fan of MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead Series of books. These books follow the adventures of Betsy, once a laid-off secretary living in Minnesota, until she is run over by an Aztek on her 30th birthday. She wakes up a vampire and all sorts of wacky adventures ensue.

So when Undead and Undermined, the 10th book in this series, came out recently, I had to get it. I got the Kindle version and read it in one day.

At the beginning of the book, it is noted by the author that this book is the 2nd book in a trilogy that is in the midst of this series. The first was Undead and Unfinished and then will end with Undead and Unstable, which will be out next year.

Knowing that the story arc wasn’t finished helped with my enjoyment of this book. Most of the book deals with Betsy getting used to being in a whole new timeline, due to events that happened in the previous book.

The end makes you want to read the next book right away, so it’s going to be hard to wait a whole year until the next book is out. And this book attempts to reclaim some of the lightheartedness that made me love the first books in the series. This is good because the last books have been really dark and not very amusing at all. I continue to read them though, because I love the characters.

The attempt at lightheartedness in Undead and Undermined falls a little flat, and the end of the book is rather sad. Despite this, I would recommend this book to fans of this series. If you like Vampire books that have a bit of comedy and romance in them, I’d recommend the whole series. But make sure to start from the beginning.
