If you’re in the NYC area on July 16th and 17th you’ll have an opportunity to see the first (and hopefully annual) Robot Film Festival. Produced by Heather Knight of Marilyn Monrobot, the film festival aims to create a cross-discipline community that can explore the future of robots and entertainment.

There are 53 films scheduled for screenings, opening up with Spike Jonze’s short, “I’m Here.” Mixed in with the screenings are live performances from human and robotic performers. Saturday night is a black tie gala event complete with a red carpet and Bostker awards. Stick around on Sunday afternoon for the Make Your Own Robot Film Workshop and meet Heather’s humanoid robot Data and Marek Michalowski’s Keepon robot.

Check out RobotFilmFestival.com for more details. Tickets are on sale now, and hopefully they sell enough to ensure a second annual robot film festival.

If you, like me, can’t make it to NYC that weekend, a lot of the shorts are available on the internet. Robot Film Festival has also posted some teasers. I’ll do some research and post links to all that I can find soon after the festival.
