I’m hoping I’m not the only one who does this.
Let me start by saying that we don’t have cable, we also don’t have Netflix. So I rely on my DVD collection, my Dad’s DVD collection, the library and various friends for most of my viewing needs. I watch things many times over and stagger them every few years, so that everything is fresh. I’m a creature of habit and I like what I like. I also like re-watching old shows. I recently started watching The X-f-Files from the beginning again. A little dated in places but so pioneering. In retrospect you can point to so many modern shows and date the formula back to The X-Files. Last night I started watching season seven of Buffy The Vampire Slayer again, I had an urge to watch The First in action, plus, who else has wondered if they might be a potential. I know I’m 30 but it could still happen right?
So I’m really hoping I’m not the only one who does this. My secret shame is Wikipedia. After giving my memory a bashing last night for not remembering certain story lines, I went straight to Wikipedia this morning, to read a breakdown of each episode of Buffy Season 6. I recently relived Dawson’s Creek this way – don’t judge me. I really do need to watch Firefly before I am tempted to just read about it.
Am I the only one with a Wikipedia episode listing fetish?
No, you aren’t the only one 🙂 I’ve done similar things with Six Feet Under, classic Star Trek (NO, I don’t already know every episode) and even — gasp! — Sex and the City episodes.

I am doing it right now for Thundercats and Dr. Who for my little one to watch. Sometimes it is like a pleasant blast from the past to look at the ep. guides like “I remember that episode, we were eating pizza”.
I don’t do it for TV shows, but my husband wiki’s them quite a bit. He’s a big fan of Dr. Who and because we don’t have cable (or access to BBC in our area anyways) he watches it via Netflix and wiki’s different episodes. And when I start watching a new TV show on Netflix, he will look up the series and tell me about it. He refused to watch season 2 of Dead Like Me because he read on Wikipedia the creator stopped all associations with the show after season one.
I am a Wikipedia addict though. I literally did a happy dance when I saw my Blackberry had a Wikipedia search bar in the browser.
I do it frequently. I like the stories, but don’t have the patience to wait until the next time I watch(which may take some time taking care of three very small geeklettes). I get to relax until the next time I can watch again.
I’ve totally done the same thing with Buffy and X-Files (rewatching seasons, reading episode breakdowns on Wiki), etc). In fact, when Buffy first released I knew my parents wouldn’t let me watch it, so I would read transcripts of every episode online (this was 1998!) to keep up with what was going on.
I always like your posts, Sarah, because we seem to have so much in common! (I still talk about when I watched the X-Files straight through a few years ago). I don’t use Wikipedia for this, but I DO do it other places. There was a site called TV Tomes that I think is now defunct, but I used to get lost on there. And I go back and find reviews on places like AV Club and such, once I’ve seen an episode/season of something.
My other related weird thing I do is that I love to read TV Guide, even though I barely ever actually WATCH TV. I love reading summaries of shows I don’t even watch!
