A Late Viewing of Battlestar Galactica

Similar to Jenn having never watched Firefly, I never saw the new Battlestar Galactica.

My best friend found out and immediately lent me her DVDs of the series. It took me a while to get started, but once I did, I was sucked in.

I’m not sure why I didn’t start watching BSG earlier, but I think it is because I missed the beginning on TV. It’s hard to come into the middle of a series that should be watched from the beginning.

I had been meaning to watch it since it seemed like something I would like. Plus, I attend Dragon*Con, and there always seems to be a lot of BSG guests at Dragon*Con. So, I found that once I started watching, it was hard to stop.

I recently finished the series, and I thought it was excellent. Even season 3, which many people do not like, I enjoyed. Though there was that brief “what the heck is going on” at the beginning of season 3. The end wraps things up nicely, with some surprises in there.

If you haven’t watched this series before, I would recommend it highly. I would caution that if you do, don’t wiki anything. I made that mistake several times, and got spoiled several times. It didn’t change my enjoyment of the show though.

Next on my list of shows that I wish I was already watching but never started is Dr. Who. I have the first season of the new series that I’ll be starting next.

  1. So glad you watched it. It’s a great show. So great my co-workers and I ended up doing a podcast about it while it was still on the air. I still love it, and I highly recommend saying hi to the actors at Dragon*Con, they are so nice. Maybe we’ll run in to you at Dragon*con this year 🙂

    1. I’m really hoping to get an autograph or two from the BSG folks this year!

I’ll be in my Kaylee Layer Cake costume most of the weekend, so if you see me, stop and say hi 😀

  2. Season 3 is pretty much my favorite season, including the score, which is at its best for the third season. I just started my boyfriend on the series a couple weeks ago. We’re halfway through the first season and he loves it. Which is fortunate for our relationship.

    1. *L* My husband hasn’t watched it yet, but he has expressed interest in it. He’s seen bits of some episodes from me watching them.

  3. Also never watched BSG. Or Dr. Who. But I want to watch both. Eventually. I know myself well enough that I have to wait for the right time or I will get frustrated and quit and be soured on them both.

    1. I got sucked into BSG pretty fast. I could have been able to watch it faster if it hadn’t been for not watching it when my daughter was awake.

I haven’t started Dr. Who yet – I got the first season of “Charmed” on DVD and I’ve been watching that (though I’ve seen it before on TV)

  4. My husband and I loved BSG. We are currently on Season 2 of Doctor Who and its pretty good after you get past the first few episodes and the quality of the show begins to improve. Also, fans of the show never say Dr. Who (as I found out), it’a always “Doctor Who.” Just so you don’t get a tongue lasting from a fanatic. 🙂

  5. My husband & I missed BSG when it was being broadcast, but just finished the series via Netflix, and were totally impressed.

The absolute hardest thing for me was staying unspoiled. I accidentally ran into a big one early on, and had to stay off tvtropes–almost completely–until we made it all the way through.

    1. My spoilering was my own fault – I would go on wiki looking something up in regards to characters, and get spoiled that way.
