So it appears that the automated robots that we are familiar with operating within factory or assembly line settings are breaking into the hotel business. Yotel, what one can only assume is a delightfully upscale hotel in New York City, has employed a very unique bell boy. They are calling it “Yobot,” and it appears to select and move luggage from a very large luggage rack that looks kind of like a contemporary morgue for luggage. In fact, the whole hotel is very super extra happy trendy (to use an imaginary Japanese translation for no actual Japanese), not to mention sickeningly pop-culture-ish. I say that in a nice way.
Enter Floyd Hayes and Cunning Communications, who were tasked with advertising Yobot. So when you have a 15ft high automated luggage handling robot, how do you introduce that to the world? With comedy of course. Hiring Looseworld Creative and filmmaker Duncan Skiles (winner of the 2011 mtvU Woodie Award for Best Music Video of the Year), they created a very clever video called “Celebrity Robot Audition” to introduce Yobot. The video starts off slow, but I started cracking up about the time Seven of Nine showed up. The video was originally posted at Funny or Die.
