My lady-crush on Tina Fey has become embarrassing. It’s almost as bad as when I was six and got it in my head that I’d befriend Three’s Company star Joyce DeWitt. Who, by the way, receives mention in Tina Fey’s book Bossypants, which the world and I are currently reading.
As a former comic book editor, I’ve seen firsthand how admiration can turn otherwise intelligent adults into dorky, “I-carried-a-watermelon” puddles of pre-adolescent silliness. That’s why we editors could be a little guarded around fans. While I know most comic book readers are charming people with excellent hygiene, their sense of awe could occasionally—occasionally—be overwhelming.

Happy Birthday Tina! I’m glad I’m not the only one with a lady crush, though it will make the becoming-best-friends competition more fierce. Enjoy your cake, my kids would probably like some too.
She was never funny on SNL, her time as head writer marker the beginning of the “character driven” modern era of SNL suckage (where every skit is just our ten-thousandth revisit with some cast member’s lame character piece, with maybe one actual original skit in the last 10 minutes), and Thirty Rock is a piece of garbage (only highlighted by the fact that it’s preceded by the far superior Office and Parks & Recreation). The only reason she’s popular is because she’s pretty. Rachael Dratch was *much* more talented both as a writer and comic actress, but she got pushed to the side (both on SNL and at 30 Rock) because she didn’t have the “right look” (i.e. she wasn’t the pretty girl like Fey). Fey is the ultimate role model for what I want my daughter to NOT be (a woman who gets by on her looks).
Wow, chill out a bit, Eric. I get the feeling you’re not fond of Lady Fey. But that’s okay. Really. Because there are plenty of her true fans out here, who agree with this post and want to wish her a HUGE Happy Birthday, along with Nicole.
In fact, I’ll stand in line behind Nicole, to be her second best friend. I’m sure there’s room at the cake table for me.
My whole family devours 30 Rock every week and I hope it continues on for many more seasons. She’s an amazing writer and an inspiring woman.

The book is hilarious and I’m telling everyone I know to read it. I feel the same way, I just know if I ever met her we’d instantly be friends.
Tina Fey is the Queen of Cool! I have a huge girl crush on her too, but if I ever met her, I am positive I would act weird around her. Nevertheless, she is my most favorite imaginary friend, and I gobble her book during my son’s naptime. She is a great link to the outside world for this stay-at-home-and-at-this-point-practically-agoraphobic-mom. Congratulations on the baby, Tina, and Happy Birthday!

Tina Fey is my secret best friend too, she just doesn’t know it yet. She’s part of a short list of secret best friends I have. I can’t wait to read her book and 30 Rock is one of the few shows I watch religiously. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one with a lady crush on her.
