Internet People

Tweetathon logoTweetathon logoSome people run races to raise money for charity; some walk; some even grow beards. Scott West is not one of those people: He tweets for thirty-six straight hours, once a year.

West is the man behind the excellent geeky blog Hyde and Geek, and ran his first Tweetathon last August to raise money for the awesome (and largely self-explanatorily-named) charity Kids Need to Read (KNTR). Starting at noon Eastern Time today, and continuing until midnight Eastern Time Saturday (that is, the midnight immediately following 11:59pm Friday), West will tweet at least once every ten minutes. For all that time he will be taking donations and entering all donors into a random drawing for a bunch of very cool sponsor-donated prizes — from a Real Ghostbusters DVD to a replica of Jayne’s hat (from Firefly, for those who don’t know) to three $100 gift certificates from our friends at ThinkGeek.

So be sure to follow West on Twitter at @hydeandgeek, and please consider donating during his Tweetathon. Any and all information you might want on the event can be found here on Hyde and Geek.
