Toy Fair Finds: Mimoco Mimobot Flash Drives

I’m still working my way through the things I discovered at the 2011 NY Toy Fair. If things continue at their current pace I may be done with them in time for 2012.

Mimoco’s line of cute thumb drives, the mimobots, has been around for a few years but didn’t catch my eye until they released a series of Star Wars characters last year. This spring they have picked up a DC Comics license and are producing thumb drives with their stylized versions of the Batman, Robin, Catwoman, and the Joker.

I received 2GB versions of Batman and the Joker for review and I’ve had a 4GB R2D2 since shortly after Toy Fair. They work as expected and unlike some other sculptured thumb drives I’ve had these aren’t so large they block adjacent USB ports. Performance and price are somewhere between my fast LaCie key and my cheap A-Data thumb drives. I haven’t used them enough to vouch for reliability, but they definitely get the job done.

I’m loading up R2 with geeky music for our booth at the Bay Area Maker Faire in May. If you can make it to the faire, please stop by for a chance to win one of the 2GB drives (among a lot of other prizes).
