- Take the CDC Flu App Challenge
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC to their close friends) is looking for a few good apps, and they want you to make them. The CDC Flu App Challenge is open to anyone who wants to find innovative ways to use technology to raise awareness of influenza and educate the masses on ways to prevent spread of the influenza virus.
To participate, choose one of the many Influenza datasets the CDC is providing, and create an application for the Web, computer desktops, mobile, or any platform broadly accessible to the Internet. Do this extremely well, and you have a chance to win up to $15,000!
It can be an information app, game, or anything else you can think of, but the app should promote good health and will be judged based on creativity, educational value, technical implementation, and use of the data. The winning apps will be featured on the CDC website and the there are $35000 in cash prizes up for grabs:
First Place — $15,000
Second Place — $10,000
Third Place — $5,000
People’s Choice — $2,500
Honorable mention — $2,500. Additionally, each of the 5 judges will have the discretion of awarding up to five “honorable mention” prizes of $500 each.
