Two Teams Await Robot Inspection — Photo by Anton Olsen

Blast off!

Wednesday went well. Over 250 of the teams took advantage of the early check-in and many of them beat the rush to get their robots inspected and approved for competition. As I’d expected, I spent the day setting up computers, moving computers, and making things happen.

Today I’ll be helping finish the computer setup. The webcasts should be live by 1pm Eastern when we start the practice matches. The qualification matches start at 3pm. If you’re looking for me on the webcasts, I’ll be a field tech on the Math division.

The qualification matches start at 3pm today and run through lunch on Saturday. Each division will then hold its own alliance selection with the top 8 teams drafting two teams to join them in the playoffs. The playoffs consist of a single elimination ladder with the best two of three matches advancing to the next tier. The division champions will then go on to the main arena to playoff to determine the world champion.

Qualifying rounds will run through Saturday at Noon with the division playoffs and finals taking place Saturday afternoon. If you can only make it for a short while, Saturday afternoon will be the most exciting with the best of the best competing for the top spot.

Stay tuned for more 2011 VRC World Champtionships news and follow along live on Twitter @VEXRobotics and the VEX Facebook page. Match schedules, scores, and rankings will be updated real-time on the Robot Events World Championship page. Video of each division will be broadcast live on UStream on the RECF-VEX Channel.
