Dance Contests Boost Kids’ Confidence

Geek Culture

My kids have really got into dancing the last couple of years. The oldest now has weekly Street Jazz dance lessons and another of them is looking to start Break Dancing lessons.

It’s been really good to see the confidence and enjoyment they have got out of doing something active that they really love.

This has seeped over into our game playing as well, with the Kinect games taking a bit of a lead at the moment. We have even decided to go to a Dance Competition being held in London’s Covent Garden — a family trip to the capital.

They are quite excited about getting to see comedy dance stars Happiness and Kevin Cruise. However it’s the more serious business of competing on Dance Central that they have been talking about the most. Up for grabs are Kylie Minogue concert tickets, Xbox 360 consoles, Kinect sensors and Dance Central games.

It’s great to see my kids enthusiastic about something and, although moderation is of course good here, it’s nice to see them getting competitive.

If you are in the area, the Spring Dance-Off is from 1:30-3:00 pm on Sunday 20th March at London’s Covent Garden East Piazza. Maybe we’ll see you there.

Edit: The event has now concluded and the results can be seen here.
