Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel Good Omens is by any reasonable standard one of the top ten funniest books ever written. I’ve read it at least a dozen times over the 21 years since its first publication, and it still makes me laugh out loud.

Now comes word from Sir Terry himself that a four-part TV adaptation of the book (whose full title, incidentally, is Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophesies of Agnes Nutter, Witch) is in the works! Sadly, he hasn’t provided any more detail than that, though there are rumors that Gavin Scott, best known for writing the screenplay to Small Soldiers, and former Monty Pythoner Terry Jones are in talks to script the series.

I can’t wait to find out who gets cast as Aziraphale, Crowley and the Horsemen — and of course there’s the task of finding a decent child actor to play Adam. Surely with this one more than with most adaptations, the devil’s in the details.

In case you haven’t read Good Omens, please do yourself a favor and buy a copy now. It’s still in print, and well worth the price of a paperback.
