Show Some Love to Your Computer This Week

Everyone knows that Monday, February 14th, was Valentine’s Day.

But the second Monday of February has also been host to another special day for the last ten years: Clean Out Your Computer Day.

Clearly, my own desktop needs a cleaning, inside and out.

So if you were too busy Monday being romantic with your loved one or perhaps bemoaning your lack of a loved one, it’s never too late to show your computer some love and get organized.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, the average American has 1,800 digital files and many of those files are not properly backed up or organized.

Onlineorganizing.com has a nice list of tips and links to better organize the information inside your computer. There are good free online back-up options that I’ve used, Mozy.com and Dropbox, though if your records are image and music heavy, you may need to pay for the storage.

I would also recommend the free computer cleaning program, CCleaner, if there are those of you are out there already not making use of it.

For even more efficient cleaning and defragging, try System Mechanic. So far, System Mechanic has been the easiest and most efficient way to keep my computer from being clogged up with waste or registry errors. And it does all of this automatically, so I can set the program up to run and forget about it.
