Did you know that you can detect the acidity of a candy by dissolving it in water and then adding baking soda? Watch what happens:
I’m eager to try these experiments, but there’s only one hurdle. As my science-loving 5-year-old put it, “I’m way more interested in eating my candy than I am in science.” Sigh.

Maybe you can get your daughter to try candy experiments if you use “extra candy”, candy that you didn’t pass out on Halloween or excess collected candy. Start with the acid test and some really sour candy. She could get hooked–a lot of kids do. I’ve heard from a few moms this week whose kids dissolved a pound of candy in an hour–happily!
