Geek Culture Places

As the Dorling Kindersley Books website says: “Imagine this in Lego bricks!”

DK Publishing, based in the UK, is looking to destroy the current Guinness Book of World Records record for building the world’s largest Lego mosaic. Here is the UK event invitation:

LEGO fans (young and old) come along to Shoreditch Town Hall, London and create the world’s largest LEGO® mosaic showing a tableaux of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars™ films. The mosaic’s image will be built with the help of LEGO specialists The Brickish Association.

When?
Saturday 23rd, Sunday 24th and Monday 25th October

Time?
10am – 5pm Saturday & Sunday and 10am – 4pm Monday

Where?
Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, London, EC1V 9LT

The current record which measures 80.48 meter square is held by The Toy Museum in Ohio, USA and we plan to smash this with our mosaic of 112 meters square. Go USA!

Here is some other interesting bits:

  • The mosaic will be built using 1,500 baseplates and a staggering 384,000 LEGO bricks – that’s 1.5 million LEGO studs!
  • The mosaic will measure an incredible 16 x 7 meters
  • The mosaic’s image has been designed by Hungarian artist Zoltan Simon
  • Once completed the LEGO bricks, worth £50,000, will be donated to the Kids Company’s Toys for Christmas Appeal.
