Project Intrepid: A 23-Foot Lego Aircraft Carrier

Geek Culture

While the USS Intrepid currently serves as a museum, she was once an active-duty warship with a prominent role in several battles in the Pacific campaign of WWII. It is this time period that Ed “Lego Monster” Diment is depicting in his Lego version of the ship. His model, which is receiving some final touches, will be displayed at BrickCon in Seattle the Great Western LEGO Show in Swindon, UK, this coming weekend. It’s minifig-scale (1:40!) and extends 6.8 meters or 23 feet. See Ed’s Intrepid Flickr set for lots of assembly shots.

While it’s an incredible build, Diment sadly won’t qualify for a world recordRené Hoffmeister led a group of German school children in building a 513,000-brick, 7.66-meter container ship this August.
