It is official, ladies and gentlemen! In the battle between Storm — or, perhaps more accurately, Storm’s appetite — and a Fudgie the Whale cake, Storm has emerged victorious. The battle was not without its difficulties, but in the end the emergency R2-D2 trashcan remained unused.

I was a proud participant in the festivities last night at the Fairfax, Virginia headquarters of ThinkGeek, live-tweeting, providing some commentary and conducting the cake’s official weigh-ins (we had intended to weigh Storm, but the large scale wasn’t working properly). It was truly an awesome spectacle: I’m pretty sure the last time I saw someone consume that much fat and sugar in one sitting was in college, which was longer ago than I care to remember.

It wasn’t just for fun, of course, and it wasn’t just because Paul and Storm hit 10,000 followers on Twitter. It was, most importantly, a fundraiser for the Arlington (Virginia) Food Assistance Center, and as of the end of the event last night nearly $1500 had been raised. Donations will be accepted until the end of April 11th, and each dollar donated is another entry in a drawing for two $100 ThinkGeek gift certificates. So if you haven’t donated yet, please consider doing so soon.

The video from last night is not yet available online — check back at Paul and Storm’s website to see when it is. But the pictures my wife and I took last night can be viewed on Flickr, and you can read back through the live-tweets on the @FudgieThon account in the meantime.

Oh, and in case you can’t tell for sure from the photos: Yes, that is a Hannah Montana tablecloth. Why? Does that seem odd?
