Images from a Scanning Electron Microscope have a certain recognizable look to them: alien and otherworldly, usually in gray-scale, with bizarre textures and a scratch-your-head perspective. Haven’t you ever wished you had your own microscope so you could scan all sorts of random things?

Thanks to ASPEX, now you can, sort of. They have a “Send Us Your Sample” program which is just like it sounds: you send them a sample of something you’d like to see scanned, and they’ll scan it and post it on their website gallery. You can look around at what others have sent in, or participate in the “Name That Sample” guessing game.

Of course, I’m sure what ASPEX would really like is if you decided to actually purchase one of their Scanning Electron Microscopes, but if that’s not in your budget then at least you can still afford postage to mail something in. Looks like a really cool opportunity, and I don’t know how long it will last.

Oh, that image at the top? It’s a Post-It Note.

Thanks to Nate B. for sending this in, originally from Boing Boing.
