It hardly seems possible, but GeekDad is very nearly three years old. On March 15, 2007, our beloved Editor Emeritus Chris Anderson published the first article on this blog; it’s been a bit of a long and strange trip from there to here, but we the writers and editors couldn’t be happier about where we are and where we’re going.
Of course, we couldn’t have gotten here without you, our readers. And now we’d like to ask you to help us with a new step we’re taking. In honor of our third birthday, we thought the time was ripe for us to give awards to people who may or may not be aware of our existence. We are therefore inaugurating The First Annual GeekDad Awards!
The GeekDad editors and core contributors have gotten together and produced lists of nominees in 16 categories, all based on the time frame of March 1, 2009 to March 1, 2010 (as we plan to give these out annually). Between now and 8:00pm EST on Sunday, March 14, we’d like you to vote for which entry you would like to win in each category. Then, on March 15 — GeekDad’s birthday — we will make the official announcement of the winners. We’re planning some fun things to send to the people who win, which we will reveal at that time.
Please vote on the pages following this one, indexed here in case you’d like to jump around between categories (of course, you may omit any category or categories you wish). Please, even where the categories don’t specifically mention geekiness, consider it implied. If you have any suggestions for categories you’d like to see in next year’s GeekDad Awards, please leave a comment.
Oh, one more thing: We’ve been trying to come up with a good nickname for the GeekDad Awards, but haven’t hit on anything we really like. So if you have a suggestion, please let us know!
