True Story, Swear To God's Tom and Lilly copyright Tom Beland

Happy Comic Release Day!

True Story, Swear to God by Tom Beland is most unabashedly romantic comic in my collection and seemed absolutely appropriate this week.

Summary:

As evidenced by the title, it’s the true story of a romance between Tom, an aspiring cartoonist who lives in California and Lily, a radio personality from Puerto Rico. It follows their first meeting, to encounters with each other’s families, and through the difficulties of a long-distance relationship.

It’s a really sweet, humorous story, proving that men, with proper inspiration, can write romance.

What Parents Will Like About It:

I was reminded of how I met my husband and laughed at the difficulties that Lily and Tom encountered. Some were similar to my own, some not, but all had at their heart how wonderful and how terrifying falling in love can be.

What Kids Will Like About it:

It’s not something that kids will look at and immediately demand to read but there are moments that focus on Tom’s geeky interests that kids will enjoy.

Best Panel: I have to say the one I pulled for the image at the top of this post is my favorite.

About the Creator: True Story, Swear To God has been nominated for six Eisner Awards. The next issue in the series is coming out in March from Image Comics and features the wedding.
