It’s been a while since robot-combat graced the TV airwaves, but it’s still alive and attracting geeks from all over with a bloodthirsty gleam in their eyes. And if you’d like to witness a bit of robo-carnage yourself, you’re in luck. Saturday and Sunday, December 19-20, the 2009 Combots Cup happens at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds Expo Center (you might remember it as the site of Maker Faire), in San Mateo, CA.

This is a “combat-only” event by the people behind Robogames, so you know it’s going to be good:

See everything from 1 pound antweights to 340 pound super behemoths duke it out in the ring, the loser carried out in pieces! $5000 prize purse for the best of the heavyweight division robot gladiators! (from Suicidebots)

Tix are $20 for adults (we won’t say “grownups”), $15 for kids 7-17, 6 and under and active military are FREE! Order tickets at the Robogames website.
