There is a simple pleasure inherent in putting together an episode of HipTrax. It feels good to share some great, new nerdy music with you, the listening audience. Yet this time around it is somehow even better.
You see, faithful listener, the last two weeks have seen a veritable explosion of amazing new releases, three of which we are lucky enough to profile in this very episode.
If only we’d had the time to delve properly into all the others. Oh, that I only have one podcast to give!
“In the Garage” as covered by OxygenStar
Pterodactyl Squad’s recently released Weezer – The 8 Bit Album tribute has been well-received by fans of Weezer and chiptune devotees alike, as evidenced by the fact that the label’s site has already exceeded its bandwidth allotment due to the crush of traffic. Thankfully, at the time of this writing, the site is back up and the album once again available for download. Give it a listen to hear 14 of your geek rock favorites reinterpreted by some of micromusic’s finest.
“10th Generation” by Supercommuter
Composed of Stenobot, Tron Juan and Wheelie Cyberman (formerly of Optimus Rhyme), Supercommuter blends chip music with nerdcore hip-hop in a manner most divine. The bad news is the release of their debut self-titled CD is still a month away. The good news is you can download the digital version early when you pre-order it from the band’s merch shop. Whether your interests lie in hip-hop, electronica or sci-fi storytelling, the boys deliver. On all fronts.
“Ana(pro)logue” by Another Soundscape
Final Fantasy IV all but reinvented both that beloved franchise and the videogame RPG as we know it, and at long last the epic score from that influential title gets its proper due with the release of Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption. The 14th community project album from OverClocked ReMix, this bad boy spans three complete CDs plus an additional disk’s worth of bonus tracks. All for free.
