What could be more exciting than the opening of a new local LEGO store? How about the opening of a new local LEGO store where you can help build an 8-foot tall R2D2?

For all of the Geek Families out there in the metro Baltimore-Washington area, there is a new LEGO store at the Westfield Mall in Annapolis. The store had a soft opening last weekend and will have a Grand Opening the weekend of June 6th through the 7th. The Grand Opening will feature a LEGO Master Builder constructing an 8-foot tall R2D2 model, and he will need the help of the young LEGO builders out there.

Join in the weekend-long celebration and LEGO Master Builder Event! Help a LEGO Master Builder construct an 8-ft LEGO Star Wars model and get a free certificate of achievement! Plus, when you make a qualifying purchase at the new LEGO Store, you could receive an exclusive LEGO set and a collectible, limited edition LEGO t-shirt!

Additionally, there will be a life-sized Indiana Jones model on display and there is a prize if you can guess the number of bricks it took to build the model.

I went to the store this past weekend and bought an Advanced TIE Fighter model. The staff is coming up to speed quickly on all things LEGO and was very helpful. I also found out that the store will begin taking reservations for private parties on June 1st and they expect to be booked for the year quickly. The parties are held in the store in the hour before the store opens.

The store is located across from Macy’s, next to the Pottery Barn Kids. During the Grand Opening, the R2D2 model will be built in the atrium between Macy’s and Lord & Taylor’s in the new part of the mall. Hope to see you there!
