Landon Cox over at Sawdust has started on a cool project, inspired by his kids’ competitive climbing events.The traditional mechanically switched timers were prone to failure, and sometimes difficult to trigger. With reliability and safety in mind Landon set out to build a solid state timer with no mechanical parts and was kind enough to document every step of the way.
Using some large 7 segment displays, an ATMega128, clock crystal, infra red sensors, and XBee wireless he has come up with what promises to be a reliable and accurate timer for the climbing gym.
