Sci Fi Channel Co-Founder Hates the Name Change, Too!

Pretty much every geek with a blog has weighed in on the announced name change of the Sci Fi Channel to "SyFy" in July. Now, Mitch Rubenstein, a co-founder of the cable channel, has published an article stating his opinion.

Rubenstein is now co-owner of Hollywood.com, and no longer associated with Sci Fi Channel, so he’s free to express his opinion. He not only thinks it’s a bad idea, but he also goes so far as to put words in the late Isaac Asimov’s mouth, saying that he would’ve thought it was a bad idea, too. I hadn’t been aware until I read Rubenstein’s article that Asimov was instrumental in choosing the original name of the channel, that without him it might have been called "the SF Channel" instead. And now they’re going to change the name. So it’s not only a frakking stupid idea, but also a slap in the face to the wishes of one of the Grand Masters of science fiction.

This idea makes the creation of Jar-Jar Binks look like genius!
