Wil Wheaton came up with just the right word to describe his new book, Sunken Treasure. The subtitle is Wil Wheaton’s Hot Cocoa Box Sampler, and sampler is an excellent metaphor for what this small, sumptuous snack represents. This is a variety box loaded with the delicious, hand-crafted geeky confections Wil is so well known for, from sweet ’80s nostalgia filled with video arcades and Star Wars toys, to affectionately snarky looks back upon his tenure on ST:TNG, and even a few family stories with gooey centers full of win.
If you are a huge fan of Wil’s, you’ve probably read at least half of these stories somewhere else. But that doesn’t really matter, because while the material is familiar, the performance is fresh. This collection flows, and contains a spirit that will evoke a smile within a couple pages that will last until the end.
If you’ve read a little of his blog, but never dug deep to pick up one of his books, this is the perfect way to jump into a wading pool of Wil’s writing (just wait 30 minutes after your last meal).
