Super-sized LEGO Super Mario is Super Cool

This is a LEGO workflow that truly appeals to the geek in me. Keith Brogan digitized a Mario figure using a NextEngine 3D scanner. Then he imported the resulting mesh into a program called Modo, where he build a layer over the object representing a roughly equivalent form made out of standard LEGO bricks. Then he used a tool in the program to determine where the scanned object’s surface interacted with the layer of blocks, giving him the "skin" of the scanned figure represented in bricks.  After that, it was off to the building block races!

You can find the entire build process here on Luxology.
