MTV News is reporting today that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is joining the early conceptual art effort on the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Mignola, a favorite in comic book circles, has worked previously with director Guillermo Del Toro on the Hellboy film adaptations, as well as Pan’s Labyrinth

This is an awesome development and a great sign that, while Del Toro is working hand-in-hand with Lord of the Rings writer/director/productor with Peter Jackson and the Weta effects team, he’ll also be bringing his own look and feel to the film.  This leaves me to wonder, then, where Ron Perlman will show up in the movie? I’m casting my vote for Beorn.
