Primed for a Pico Pocket Projector

I just read David Pogue’s review of the soon-to-be-released Optima Pico Pocket Projector and I’m sold. As Pogue points out, great feats of shrinkage don’t come around that often and when they do, they can have dramatic impacts. Looking at the photo of a battery-operated projector no bigger than a cell phone my mind starts reeling with the possibilities. Pogue points out some obvious ones like pairing up your Pico with a video iPod or iPhone, and suddenly any car, plane, or tent can become your personal theater. And what a cool way to show off your photos on the fly!

This looks to be one great little gadget to add to any GeekDad’s arsenal. As with any new technology, the first generation of these portable pocket projectors are sure to be pricey and pave the way for future cheaper, brighter, and higher resolution models. But if you like to be on the bleeding edge of gadgetry, you’re probably not willing to wait to get one of these.

At an expected list price of $430, the Pico certainly isn’t cheap, but I’m sure it’s going to be on more than a few of my fellow Geekdad’s holiday wishlists. Geekmom, are you listening?
