Hacking a Cake Mix

Geek Culture

CakeIMG_1213CakeIMG_1213One of the Geeklets recently turned 9, and to celebrate we baked a cake.  Since he was baking his first cake, we picked an easy to use mix, but we couldn’t resists altering it a little.  We have quite a bit of Root Beer flavor left over from a summer project and decided that a root beer cake was in order.

By adding a splash (teaspoon?) of flavor to the mix we got a nice mild root beer taste.  The cake smelled great coming out of the oven.  Mix some flavor into some white frosting, add some crushed root beer candies on top and you’ve got a very nice birthday treat.

When his fractions are a little stronger we’ll make the step to a scratch built cake and fine tune the flavor for cupcakes.
