Geeks everywhere, rejoice! The first self-described geek (that we’re aware of) has become mayor of a large city in the United States. As of Friday morning, Ken Cockrel Jr. is the new mayor of Detroit, replacing Kwame Kilpatrick, who is on his way to prison.
Cockrel describes himself as a "geek," claims to enjoy science-fiction movies and watch DVD special features late at night. He also quoted Terminator 2 and the Star Trek motto in his inaugural address. In addition, he has two sons and three daughters, thus making him a geek dad.
So, in case Mayor Cockrel reads this blog: Mr. Mayor, congratulations on your inauguration. Live long and prosper.
