Shiver me timbers, we’re just now one short week to International
Talk Like a Pirate Day, and GeekDad wants to ensure plenty of time for holiday preparations.  Started only a few short years ago, the holiday has seen very large uptake in people celebrating the
Golden Age of Pirates.

International Talk Like a
Pirate Day, celebrated every September 19^th, originated in 1995 by John Baur and Mark Summers after an injury in a racquet-ball game.  One of them got hurt, yelling “Arrrrr!”  The rest, as they say, is history.  You can read more at Wikipedia.

In order to better talk like a pirate,
Wikipedia has some suggestions, there’s also a wikihow page, and  finally help from Dave
Barry.  For those wanting to properly celebrate with the addition of a pirate-theme party, I’ve found this site of Pirate Fonts and Symbols. To get the kids involved, you can check out National
Geographic Kids Pirates page (including history, maps, games, and kid-friendly books).
