Voltron Movie Scales Back, Will Probably Suck

Geek Culture

VoltronVoltronBad news out of Tinseltown this weekend. The project based on the 80s television series, Voltron, was put into turnaround by 20th Century Fox. Variety reports that  "Relativity
Media is in negotiations to back the property, though on a more moderate budget, utilizing the type of cost-effective technology employed in films including "300"
.

But, simply put, blockbuster action movies require blockbuster budgets — Transformers cost about $150 million to make. Now, with a big-name studio walking away, the Voltron budget being slashed, and words like "cost-effective" being thrown around, it’s easy to imagine that this movie will fall apart faster than the Royal Palace.

And the worst part is that the script was supposed to be absolutely incredible (lots of nsfw language in link) – everything you would hope it would be – lots of action, nothing corny and plenty of dark, apocalyptic energy. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I’m not getting my hopes up. Here’s hoping that Warner Brothers doesn’t do the same to their pending live-action version of Robotech.
