Old-school Transformers Game Coming to Mobile Phones

Geek Culture

Fellow geeks, our long-held dream of a Transformers: Generation 1 game that is wholly true to the spirit of the franchise has been realized!

Cell phone game publisher Glu Mobile is, as Miami bass duo Tag Team so succinctly  put it in their 1993 hit "Whoomp! (There It Is)," taking it back to the old school." The following video for the soon-to-be-released Transformers G1: Awakening is practically dripping with classic Transformer-y goodness.

Old school (read: wonderfully clunky) character models: check

Rotating Autobot/Decepticon logos: check

Cheesy in-game transformations: check

Integrated Tech Spec stats and quotes: check

Sound: not so much

But that single technical failing of the trailer aside, this looks to be the answer to the prayers of Transfans everywhere.

If you like G1 Transformers – which I’m sure you do – and turn-based strategy titles like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem – ditto – then keep an eye out for this game’s September release. And always remember: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
