Car racing is so two-dimensional, and regular airshow races just don’t have the zing needed to really hit it big.  What do they need?  Rockets, of course!

Back in April, we previewed the Rocket Racing League, and this week they held their first exhibition flights at the EAA AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Racers pilot rocket-powered airplanes through a three-dimensional race course in the sky, combining speed and precision flying in a public display.

The League has six teams so far who, just like other racing concerns, are getting corporate sponsorship to pay the way for their expensive sport.  DKNY Men sponsored the Bridenstine Rocket Racing team at the exhibition, who flew their rocket racer which is powered by liquid oxygen motor putting out up to 2,000 pounds of thrust.  Check out the footage below from the exhibition flight.
