John D. Carmack II was born on Aug. 20, 1970 in Shawnee Mission, KS. He is a co-founder of id Software and the lead programmer for the games Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake and their sequels. He is also an avid rocket enthusiast and the founder and lead engineer for Armadillo Aerospace. Carmack married Katherine Anna Kang in 2000 and their son Christopher just turned four years old.
