The Largest Drawing on Earth

Dark Roasted Blend has an excellent series of photos of Jim Denevan’s sand drawing, which was quite possibly the largest modern drawing on earth…for about a week.

The scale represents 100 miles of walking on a dry lake bed in Nevada, but it is also a passing thing:

"Completely erased in a rainstorm the next week… It felt strange to work so hard and not see tide come in. But rains did come which is sort of the same thing."

Denevan’s work is like that. This is not your everyday beach activity, but it is an appealing alternative to the ol’ sand castle. We just might have an addition to our beach activity arsenal this summer, as well as something to complete our alien beach landscape after we’ve made our city of spheres.
