Though it’s not yet summer – except here in the Deep South, where it is currently 101 degrees for no discernible reason – the summer music season is already upon us. And while corporate-flavored mega-events like the Warped Tour tend to garner all the press, there are other, nerdier musical options that you may find to be equally rewarding.
Many of these not only boast more reasonable ticket prices, but also a concert atmosphere more welcoming to your geeklings. Here are three of the season’s most geek-tastic all ages shows.
mc chris
MC Pee Pants himself, the venerable mc chris, will be touring throughout the summer in support of his new release mc chris is dead. Sensitive to the needs of younger fans, the lion’s share of his tour stops in early June in the northeast, mid- and southwest are all ages shows. In late June, however, mc will join the aforementioned Warped Tour to ride out the rest of the summer.

The Butterbeer Experience & Lauren Myrtle
If you prefer your geeky music a bit more Potter-centric, there’s still time to catch the last few shows of the two-woman Wizard Rock extravaganza known as The Accio Bodyguard Tour. Lena (of The Butterbeer Experience) and Lauren (one half of WRock duo The Moaning Myrtles) still have a pair of stops in New York before hanging up their brooms. Their collective brand of understated, guitar-based rock is sure to please the rampant Potter fans among you, and Lauren may even bust out her musical meditation on Kaylee Frye for all you Browncoats.

Harry and the Potters, Uncle Monsterface & Math the Band
While those tours are winding down, Harry and the Potters, Uncle Monsterface and Math the Band are presently preparing to embark on this summer’s Unlimited Enthusiasm Expo. This rock tour/multimedia event/travelling summer camp will be coming to a city near you as it crisscrosses the country between late June and early August. Most importantly, each of its 38 tour stops are all ages. (Though the July 30th stop in Omaha does have its own caveat.)
