Imagine yourself in a room with 1,500 kids, and every one of them smarter than you.  That’s the 2008 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).  Started in 1950, the Intel ISEF is bringing together pre-college students from all 50 states and 47 countries this week in Atlanta, GA, to vie for $4 million in awards and scholarships.  Teams and individuals, all winners from more than 550 ISEF-associated fairs held around the world, bring their prize projects to be judged by leaders of science and industry.

This year, in a sign of the times, many of the entered projects deal with environmental themes, and in a profound sign of positive progress in science education, 47% of the competing students are girls.

Take a look in the Extended Post for some of the amazing projects competing at the Intel ISEF 2008.
