GeekMom + Cell Phone + Washing Machine = Not a Good Thing

The Neumeier GeekMom has been without a cell phone the past several days.  The reason?  It went in the washing machine, and was only discovered as the clothes made their way to the dryer when the cell phone dropped to the floor.

Along with one of our cordless phones, the cell phone was put on top of the laundry, walked downstairs, and (I’m guessing here) GeekMom got distracted by one of the kids.  While trying to get the laundry going in the midst of fielding a barrage of questions, both her cell and the cordless phone found their way into the washing machine –
for a full cycle.

It was when the clothes went to the dryer that the “oops” was discovered.  With water dripping from the cell phone casing, she pulled the battery out, removed the sim-card and set it on the counter for a few days.  The cordless phone got the same treatment.

The cordless survived the ordeal – the display doesn’t show all the characters now, but you can talk on it and dial from it.  The cell phone, not so much.  At this point the cell (minus the battery and sim) have become a play-thing for our youngest GeekKid.  The new cell phone is scheduled to arrive soon via eBay. The only thing I can do
(besides pay for the new phone) is comfort her in the fact that she is not alone….
