On our new blog for home gardeners, Gardenaut, we just published a comparative review of twelve BPA-free water bottles for adults by Camelbak, Nalgene, Sigg, Thermos, ThinkSport, Polar Bottle, and Klean Kanteen. We drop-tested them, chill tested them, and used them all for about five weeks.
On Z Recommends we have a directory of kids’ feeding products (bottles, sippy cups, tableware, pacifiers…) that contain or don’t contain BPA, organized by company. We started this work about a year ago and have been maintaining and updating the directory ever since. We also set up a text-messaging service where you can call in with a company name and/or item type and get BPA information on your cell phone. Useful for those spur-of-the-moment purchases. We foot the bill for the service, too – all you pay is whatever it costs you to send and receive messages.
If you’re looking for more information about BPA, Discover magazine had a great, in-depth, science-based article about the issue not long ago. Things have progressed politically since then, both in
Canada, where the substance is being banned, and in the U.S., where the
FDA is under investigation for its past approval of the chemical. But the article is still one of the best written on the subject. Wired also raised the issue as long ago as last August.
