Free Comic Book Day Countdown: Local Flavor

We stand, fellow GeekDads and GeekMoms, at the veritable cusp of Free Comic Book Day. This weekend we will descend en masse on our local specialty retailers, hopefully with our geeklings in tow, and emerge resplendent with swag. Yet it occurs to me that, while we’ve already talked a bit about the hows and whats of this year’s event, we have yet to discuss the all-important wheres.

To that end, the official Free Comic Book Day web site features a pair of tools that may come in handy if you haven’t quite settled on your destination. The first is the domestic FCBD store locator that allows American and Canadian fans to find local shops via ZIP or Postal Code. The second is the worldwide store locator, which sorts participating retailers by country and city.

I will, as always, saddle up the kids and hit up Richard’s Comics & Collectables in my native Greenville, SC. While there’s often little method and much madness surrounding FCBD festivities, Richard does his best to try to entertain the masses, and this year looks to be no exception. With artists Tracy Yardley and J. Chris Campbell, local podcasters The Dollar Bin, and the always entertaining men and women of the 501st Legion’s Carolina Garrison on-hand, even our small city will see its share of geeky goodness.

Which brings me to the final question in our Free Comic Book Day Countdown; What local haunt will you hit up for FCBD and what kinds of comics-related revelry are in store?

I’ll be sure to snap some pictures of me and mine enjoying the festivities for inclusion at the GeekDad Flickr pool, and I sincerely hope you’ll do the same.
