If you recall, a short while back I posted about the Skitter tool that allows one to "hack" your Pleo dino-robot and program it in a myriad of ways.  Well, in a stroke of geeky business genius, the folks behind the Pleo are embracing the hackability of the creature, and beyond actively supporting the existing third-party tools, will be putting out their own SDK soon to allow code-level access to the toy.

The Pleo Development Kit will make it possible for you to creatively interact with Pleo on the programming level. Whether you are a casual hobbyist or hardcore hacker, you’ll be supported at a level that makes your personalization of Pleo rewarding and fun. You’ll be able to tap into your creativity to modify his behaviors, tweak an animation or completely reinvent him.  Will you design a new neural network learning algorithm, or to add a cool sound effect? The PDK will make personalization rewarding and fun.

Until the kit hits the street, though, they are putting out fun personality overlays that can be loaded via sd cards into the Pleo’s.  The first one is just in time for Valentine’s Day.

He sulks when left alone, but pet him … he wiggles, coos, and sighs happily. Cuddle Pleo and his heart beats with joy as he purrs and nuzzles. Pet him just so; he’ll profess his love and blow kisses.
Whistling when he sees something he likes, this baby dino is quite a flirt!
