Everything we’ve ever seen in sci-fi TV and movies always arrives about 30 years later.  This time, it’s holographic projection on a useful scale.

Measuring about 20-inches square, the Holocube packs a 40GB hard drive for storing up to 18 hours of compressed video, which can magically float at 1080i resolution within the cube at the flick of a switch. Of course, the fact the company is targeting the device solely as a means of advertising should tell you something about the price (which is on a need to know basis, it seems).

So, today it’s an expensive show-piece.  Who wants to bet it’s in our cell phones inside of a decade?  When my kids get to college, we won’t be videoconferencing, we’ll be holo-conferencing!  Link to the Engadget storyLink to the manufacturer.
